CHRONIC CONSTIPATION – THE DANGERS OF LEAVING CONSTIPATION UNTREATED (GENERAL INFORMATION)
If the condition is allowed to go untreated, it may have grave consequences. So never shrug it off lightly; constipation is a dangerous thing. A malignant growth leading to obstruction of the bowels (ileus) may be the result of constipation that has existed for thirty years. An artificial rectal exit (anus) is certainly not a desirable answer to the problem. We often fail to appreciate the automatic devices of our body until it is too late, that is, at the moment when these natural functions fail. They should never be taken for granted and every consideration must be given to nature’s requirements. Even the most skilful surgeon can produce nothing but a makeshift solution, in comparison to the original. Only someone who has had to put up with the burden of an artificial rectal opening is able to appreciate and comprehend the marvellous working of our anal sphincter. So, never let things get to the point of neglecting proper movement of the bowels.
